His career included spells with Ayr United and Falkirk before he moved to Love Street in 1967 following our relegation to the second division. He played almost every game as we charged back to the first division.
He played 169 times for Saints, scoring once, and was a guest when we lifted the league trophy in 2006 and when we played our last game at Love Street in 2009.
A minute's silence will be held before the next home game against Kilmarnock and there will be a celebration of his life at Daldowie on Monday, April 19, starting at 3pm. Saints fans are invited.
Mirren Mad would like to pass on its condolences to Willie's family and friends.
