Gilmour was being asked about his views on FIFA's new transfer rules and the possible transfer rules.
He commented "There is a serious danger that this new regulation could undermine the credibility of our game. What are smaller less well-off clubs meant to do with three or four goalkeepers on their books? At one stage last season we had three leepers unfit through injury and were able to sign John Hillcoat as emergency cover. Under the new rule we could be left without a keeper. There has to be a special dispensation for ggoalkeepers and the SFA have got to argue our case with FIFA". Earlier in the small piece, it was revealed Gilmour had said we could be seeing Mark Yardley in goals next season, whether this was as a protest or if the keepers get injured is unknown.
Of course, what Gilmour fails to mention is that when Hillcoat was signed, Ludo Roy and Kris Robertson were still fit, Derek Scrimgour was the only injured keeper. Gilmour then loaned Roy out to St. Johnstone to save money, something that wouldn't have happened if the transfer window was in place. John Hillcoat was then signed, before getting injured against Airdrie, then Kris Robertson got injured. At this point Scott Strang made a one game appearance. So what Gilmour has said is factually incorrect, Hillcoat wasn't brought in as cover for injured goalies. He was there to play instead of someone loaned out due to his penny pinching.
Also, look out for a Stewart Gilmour denial tomorrow, exclusive to the Paisley Daily Express :-)
