January Rumour Mill Issue 2

Last updated : 25 January 2006 By Stuart Gillespie
This will probably be the last issue until the end of the season nears and we are linked with players again. The idea of the Rumour Mill is to list details of rumours regarding possible transfer acitivity at Love Street, and confirm whether or not previous rumours turned out to be true. If a player is signed or leaves without him being mentioned in the Rumour Mill, he won't be mentioned here.

IN

Garry Brady:
Dundee midfielder Garry Brady was linked with a move to Saints in the last edition, and it seems it's one rumour that won't go away. Despite already signing one player from Dundee, Brady's name has popped up again in recent weeks and could arrive as a replacement for the ageing Andy Millen.

Bobby Mann: Another Dundee player that Saints have been linked with (well, on the Mirren Mad messageboard at least) is Bobby Mann. The big defender is getting a game at Dundee at the moment, but the Dens Park club need to cut costs. This is probably unlikely to happen, although with Kirk Broadfoot injured we could do with a backup defender.

Scott Muirhead: Aberdeen midfielder Scott Muirhead could be coming to Love Street on loan until the summer going by one rumour. The Paisley born player is getting the odd game for Aberdeen and may come to Saints to get some first team experience.

John Rankin: Saints have already had a bid for Ross County midfielder John Rankin rejected, and manager Gus MacPherson has said it is unlikely he will end up a Saint before the transfer window shuts. However, some people still insist the deal could still happen, and a lot depends on what happens when County play at Love Street on Saturday.

OUT

No one for a change!

CONFIRMED

Iain Anderson:
The rumours about Dundee midfielder coming to Saints turned out to be true when he signed for the club just before the Scottish Cup win over Motherwell.

NOT HAPPENING

Kenny Arthur, Barry John Corr, John Hillcoat:
Saints were linked with these three goalies (and probably others) due to the need for a backup keeper. However, the arrival of Tony Bullock meant that none of the trio would be signed.

Allan Jenkins: Stranraer midfielder Allan Jenkins was linked with a move to Saints, however opted to sign for big spending Gretna instead.

Steven McGarry: Former Saint Steven McGarry was rumoured to be returning to Saints, however this turned out to be untrue and he could now be heading for the SPL(!) as Motherwell are interested in acquiring his services.

Stevie Thompson: Former Rangers striker, and Saints fan, Stevie Thompson was linked with a move to Saints, however this was extremely unlikely. Instead, he decided to sign for Cardiff City.

That's all for now, and probably this transfer window.
