Summer Rumour Mill Issue 1

Last updated : 01 January 2006 By Stuart Gillespie
The idea is simple. Every so often during the next few months there will be details of the latest Saints rumours doing the net. Ones printed in the papers will still make it into the normal news, this is just for Internet rumours as these can sometimes be total nonsense. Doing it this way means I can report them and cover my backside if they turn out to be a load of rubbish!

IN

Marc Corcoran:
There have been rumours for months that Hamilton Accies' Marc Corcoran will be a Saints player next season, however these seem to have strengthened over the past week or so. The left winger has been a good player for Hamilton this season and may fancy his chances at full time football. There are rumours that he's already signed a new deal with Hamilton, and rumours that he's already signed for Saints! Probably a case of wait and see.

Half the Clyde team: Depending which website you read, it seems that Saints will be signing one, some or all of Bryn Halliwell, Simon Mensing and John Potter in the summer. They are all out of contract, but with some new weird franchising system coming in soon at Broadwood they'll probably stick around for a bit.

Keigan Parker: This was posted on one website as a total windup but I thoguht I'd report it anyway. The diver that is Keigan Parker is apparently going to give up big wages at Blackpool and return to Scotland to play with us. Aye right.

Ryan Stevenson: Ryan Stevenson was being linked with moves to Saints during the January transfer window, but they never materialised. Stevenson seems to be St. Johnstone's answer to Paul Rudden: he's been there for a few years but no one is quite sure where he's meant to play. As we have more midfielders than you can shake a big stick at I doubt we'll be back in for him.

OUT

Kirk Broadfoot:
Despite Kirk Broadfoot having signed a new contract back in December, there are still rumours that he'll be leaving in the summer. Some deluded Falkirk fans feel he'll be going there, whilst a Motherwell fan keeps telling me they will sign him. As he's got a two year contract and we'll be after a lot, it's extremely unlikely that he'll be leaving.

Mark Crilly: Not exactly rocket science this one. Mark Crilly's coat was on a shoogly peg ever since he asked for a transfer request in August. He's played a bit this season but most folk reckoned he wouldn't be signing a new deal. He allegedly had a bst up during Monday's reserve game and apparently already knows he's on his way in the summer.

Andy Millen: With the news last week that Billy Reid could become Hamilton's new manager if they go full time, some people feel that Andy Millen will be going there to be his new assistant. Millen has a two year contract with Saints so it's extremely unlikely, and the rumour has probably only come around due to Millen having played at Clyde when Reid was the assistant manager.

John O'Neill: Despite beiong Saints top scorer this season many Saints fans don't rate John O'Neill for some unknown reason. The midfielder has recently been linked with a return to Queen of the South. His cotnract is up soon and he has been struggling to get a game recently so it seems possible he could be on the lookout for a new club soon.

Mixu Paatelainen: St. Johnstone have been looking for a new manager since sacking John Connolly last week, and it seems that Mixu Paatelainen has put his name forward for the job. The big Finn has effectively been out of action since picking up an injury in October, but has done good work with the reserves and under 19s this year. His contract is up in the summer and he is an ex Fake Saints player, so there may be some truth in this one.

Allan Russell: With his contract up in the summer there are growing calls from Saints fans for Allan Russell to get a new one year deal. The jury's still out on whether he'll get one, and if he doesn't it seems that he could be set for a return to Hamilton.

That's all for this issue, believe what you want. None of this comes with a guarantee and may all be rubbish, but if any of it comes true remember that you saw it here!
