Ayr United v Saints Preview

Last updated : 18 July 2006 By Stuart Gillespie
At that time Saints were struggling for strikers, but fortunately we're in better shape now with the likes of John Sutton and Billy Mehmet, as well as Alex Burke. The problem spot this time around seems to be the left back position.

Saints played with a 3-5-2 formation last season but Saints boss Gus MacPherson prefers a 4-4-2. Saturday's game against Stirling Albion saw trialist Mark Innes there, but he won't be signed after damaging his Achilles in training yesterday and ruling himself out for severla months.

This could mean that one of the few exciting features of pre-season friendlies has disappeared, as it looks as if Saints won't have any obscure trialists playing tonight. Pity. It will be a mixed team tonight of first teamers and reserves as there is another friendly tomorrow at Dumbarton.

Saints are likely to field former Ayr players Millen and Stewart Kean, whilst ex Buddie David Lowing could play for the home side.
