Our last three trips to Brechin have all been during the week, and we've won them all. The last was 18 months ago in the Scottish Cup when we won 3-1 thanks to a goal from Dennis Wyness and a Jim Hamilton double. The other games were during the 2005/06 title season and we won 3-2 and 3-0, the latter thanks to John Sutton's hat-trick. Another win tonight would perhaps please some of the people who are getting a bit too worked up about friendlies - although that didn't stop them getting their knickers in a twist when we beat Ayr United.
There's a fair chance the players who didn't start Monday's game against Dumbarton will be in from the start tonight. That means players like David van Zanten, Marc McAusland and Gareth Wardlaw might get a chance to impress as Danny Lennon looks to get the fitness levels up. This could be the last chance for trialists Stephen Glass and Sean Lynch to prove they are worth a contract, with reports of Monday's game suggesting Lynch is on borrowed time. There could be some other trialists playing, with suggestions German defender Michael Laletin back for another try, while former Falkirk man Pele (not that one) is also supposedly training with us. However, Lee Mair won't feature after a set-back in his recovery from an injury.
Brechin did well in the second division last season, narrowly missing out on promotion to a Cowdenbeath side managed at the time by one Danny Lennon. Jim Duffy decided to pack it in after that, so Jim Weir has come in, ably assisted by former Saints captain Kevin McGowne. He isn't the only former Buddie at Glebe Park, as they also have ex-youngsters David McKenna, Craig Molloy and Mark Docherty. The trio will no doubt be desperate to get one over on their former club and prove they were wrong to let them go in the first place. Another player to look out for is Rory McAllister, who bagged shedloads of goals last season despite having a woeful record while with Inverness Caley Thistle in the SPL.
