It's been an interesting summer. We've been hammered by a rather good Italian side, sneaked a draw against one from the third division and then picked up good results against Stirling Albion and Blackpool. Oh, and we've retained the Renfrewshire Cup. A long way from being perfect, but overall it's not been that bad. It's also a hell of a lot better than Hibs' preparations!
Tomorrow is judgment day for the two trialists currently with the Celtic squad. Dominic Shimmin has played in three games and seems to have acquitted himself well, so a good performance against Darlo should see him offered a contract. The mystery Spanish trialist, who scored against Blackpool, is struggling with an injury so may not play. Opinion about his performance on Tuesday - even though he scored - seems to be a bit mixed, and it's also been revealed he's a left sided midfielder, something we have in abundance. If he can play on the right he may be worth keeping, but do we need another left winger?
Perhaps Saints boss Gus MacPherson knows something we don't - like Steven Robb's pre-season injury is worse than first thought. The former Dundee United man missed most of last season and it's looking far from likely that he'll be ready for the start of the SPL season. The good news is that he is the only Saints player currently struggling. Previous injury victims Will Haining and Jack Ross both came through Tuesday's game unscathed and will probably start once more tomorrow in a bid to get them some more practice. There could be changes elsewhere in the side, with the likes of Tom Brighton and David Barron coming in.
I'll be honest and say I don't know a lot about Darlington. They have a rather impressive stadiu, which was built by their previous chairman, and made the League Two playoffs last season. Aside from that - and the fact they are responsible for introducing Jose Quitongo to British football - I know very little, especially now that Julian Joachim has left!
Saints beat a Championship side on Tuesday night, so a League Two one should present few problems. However, this is St. Mirren we're talking about, so we're probably lose.
