It's not far to the Strathclyde Homes Stadium - just a short hop across the bridge - but we've never played their in a competitive match. We go there every season for a friendly and have faced the Sons at Love Street in a couple of cup games recently, but we've yet to meet in a proper game at their new home. It's changed days - in the 1990s you were almost guaranteed two trips a season to Boghead as either Dumbarton or tenants Clydebank were in the same division as ourselves.
Hugh Murray is the only member of the current Saints squad to have played a competitive game for the club in Dumbarton and he could be set for his first summer appearance tomorrow. Shuggy had to undergo surgery during the close season, which has set him back a few weeks, but he could be included tomorrow - although it'll probably only be as a sub. Steven Robb and Tom Brighton are likely to miss out (not the last time I'll be saying that this season I'd imagine) through slight knocks, while the likes of Craig Dargo, Garry Brady and Dennis Wyness are in line for starts after being on the bench on Tuesday.
Also in line for starts are our two mystery trialists. I'm quite surprised their identities aren't all over the web and the papers by now, so well done to Gus MacPherson on that one. It seems that one is a centre half and the other is a right winger, both of which are much needed. Reports on the pair seem to be mixed after their performance against East Fife on Tuesday so it's good they're being given another chance.
This should be a happy time for Dumbarton as they look forward to second division football after winning last year's third division. However, there's more than a tinge of sadness due to the absence of captain Gordon Lennon. He was tragically killed in a car crash during the summer and is sadly missed. In a nice touch, Saints share of the gate receipts will be donated to his family.
