Hibs v Saints Preview

Hibs were the last team we beat, meaning we've managed to play everyone else in the SPL side without winning. In fairness, we've only lost four times, so things aren't too bad. However, with the current injury problems, the chances of a win coming soon are not great.

Let's start with the players who will definitely be missing. Strikers Stewart Kean, Alex Burke and Brian McGinty are all out for a while. Midfielders Iain Anderson and Craig Molloy will also be joining them in the physio's room over the next few weeks. Garry Brady and John Sutton are the doubtfuls, whilst Billy Mehmet wasn't fully fit when he played 45 minutes against Dunfermline last week. Even if he is fit, that leaves us with a strike force of Mehmet and Mark Corcoran, with only the likes of David McKenna and Scott Gemmill to bring on to change the match - not exactly inspiring substitutions.

Of the players that are fit are three former Hibs players. Andy Millen played for them in the mid 1990s, whilst Kirk Broadfoot and Alan Reid both spent time at Easter Road as youngsters before being dumped. Reid in particular will be keen to impress his old club on his first trip back there, whilst Broadfoot will be looking to continue his good form of late. Due to the injuries, the pair will almost certainly start - with Millen probably (or should that be hopefully) benchwarming again.

The last time we played Hibs, captain Kevin McGowne found himself dropped simply because of the opposition's style of play. It looks unlikely that will happen tomorrow, however, due to the injuries. Thankfully the pacey Ivan Sproule is missing through suspension, as is captain Kevin Thomson. However, they do still have a lot of good - and quick - players, including the wantaway Scott Brown. Combine that, our poor run at Easter Road, our poor run of current form and our injury crisis, and what do you get? An extremely difficult job for Saints tomorrow.
