Saints last played at Love Street on Boxing Day, managing their first win since September when they beat Falkirk. Another win tomorrow would be extremely welcome and would be a big boost in the relegation battle. Dunfermline are also fairly useless at the moment so our lack of games/points hasn't been punished - yet.
All this has apparently been enough to satisfy someone at Love Street - be it chairman Stewart Gilmour, manager Gus MacPherson or someone completely different - that the current squad does not need strengthened. Admittedly, MacPherson has been trying and failing - partly because of the lack of funds. Quite why he isn't being given the cash to sign a few players that could help us stay up, and give the fans a boost, is anyone's guess. of course, it's a bit early to criticise as the transfer window doesn't close until next week.
Anyway, there won't be any new signings for tomorrow's match so we've the same players to choose from as we did for last week's game against Celtic. or maybe not. Simon Lappin picked up a hip injury during the defeat and may miss out. Still, Iain Anderson and Alex Burke must be nearing fitness after their injuries and it would be nice to see Anderson return to the side. Billy Mehmet, Brian McGinty, Hugh Murray and Craig Molloy are all still missing.
After the poor results recently, there have to be changes for tomorrow. We must go with at least two up front, ideally with Mark Corcoran on the wing in a 4-4-2, allowing John Sutton and Stewart Kean to start up front. John Potter must play in defence, although who goes in goals is anyone's guess. Word is that Tony Bullock is away in the huff so may not feature, bringing it down to a straight choice between Chris Smith and Craig Hinchcliffe. Could Hinchy make his first Saints appearance in nearly 18 months? It's possible.
Whilst most people are complaining about the lack of signings (I may have mentioned that earlier), we could be in as bad a shape as Aberdeen. They've only signed one player - and he's injured! Saints were after Craig Brewster but sadly he chose the Dons. However, he's out for a few months and won't feature tomorrow. Sadly, Aberdeen are in a far better thape than us in the league table and are pushing for Europe.
Prediction for tomorrow? A win for Aberdeen followed by some nonsense from Saints about how the players being good enough to stay up and only signing players better than we already have.
