Incase you've forgotten - and we have all tried to erase it from our memory banks - Saints were outplayed and outfought by third division East Fife, which resulted in us being knocked out of the cup at the first hurdle. At the time we thought it was the last league cup game that would be hosted at the ground. We've now got a second chance for a happy ending as far as this competition is concerned, so let's see if we can take it.
Based on our results so far, Dumbarton must fancy their chances. One point from nine does not make for good reading, especially as we haven't been anything special in our last couple of games. Dumbarton also came close to beating us in a friendly so will be full of confidence for this one. After all, they have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
It should be a strong Saints side that starts tomorrow, with the injury list finally clear. We could get a rare glimpse of summer signings Dennis Wyness, Tom Brighton and Steven Robb, as well as an even rarer sighting of Craig Dargo. There will be changes to the side that faced Hearts on Saturday - we surely won't go with one up front at home to a third division side - but we can't afford to play too many fringe players after what happened last season when we fielded a full strength side.
We put Dumbarton out of the Scottish Cup in January but they've improved a reasonable amount since then. The much hated Michael Moore has arrived to bolster the attack, while goalkeeper Dave McEwan is a shrewd signing by Jim Chapman. Overall they seem to have a decent third division squad and will be a stern test for us tomorrow.
