2007 has seen just seven points gained from all the games at Love Street, and the goals tally isn't a lot better. Quite why our form has been this poor when we've managed some decent away results is a mystery, and is hopefully something that will change in 2008. However, there's still a lot of games to be played in Paisley before then, starting with tomorrow's clash.
It will be interesting to see what formation Saints go with. It would seem last week saw a return to a 3-5-2, albeit an incredibly defensive one, rather than the expected 4-5-1. It was aimed at stopping Celtic scoring and it did the trick. However, we're the home team tomorrow and such a defensive approach may not go down well with the Love Street faithful. We should be looking to attack teams at home and put some more daylight between ourselves and Gretna ahead of January.
However, it's likely to be the same side that lines up tomorrow that played Celtic. That means Stephen McGinn - who, according to newspaper reports this week, is apparently related to some famous person in Celtic's history - will get the chance to start at somewhere other than Parkhead. Ian Maxwell was a surprise choice in defence last week after five months out, but came through with flying colours and should keep his place. Billy Mehmet and Mark Corcoran will probably be the front two, although the good news is that Craig Dargo (remember him?) should be back in January. However, Will Haining is out to the New Year and Richard Brittain and Stephen O'Donnell are out for even longer.
Dundee United suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Falkirk last week (which sounds familiar) and Craig Levein is contemplating throwing in young keeper Euan McLean. He's only played a few games, but as one of them was a win over Rangers it would seem he is quite good! United's main threat will, as usual, be Barry Robson, who always does well against us. Last season he was sent off at Love Street, but he'd already scored twice to seal a win. The only time we beat United was when he didn't play!
Robson will no doubt score tomorrow and Noel Hunt - who also seems to do well against us - will probably score as well for a 2-0 victory.
