Saints v Falkirk Preview

We have to win. Over the past few years I've usually typed that in the context of a relegation battle, fortunately this year we find ourselves at the other end of the table. We sit nine points off of Falkirk, and a win for them today would almost seal the league already, if Clyde slip up in their game. A draw wouldn't be good, but a win would show Falkirk can be beaten and would close the gap to six points. If we want to have a shot at the title, we have to win.

Saints are the one of just two sides to beat Falkirk this season, the other being Celtic in the league cup. Our win came on the opening day of the season, thanks to goals from Mixu Paatelainen and Allan Russell. Since then Falkirk haven't lost a league game and won the league challenge cup.

That opening day win was our first victory over Falkirk since April 2000, one of my favourite Saints games. After being up against it for a long, long time, Saints scored a late winner from a rare breakway with Paul McKnight (who was semi fit) scoring a goal which sent the majority of Love Street wild. A game like that today would be great.

That win was all the more enjoyable because of Falkirk's moaning. They moaned about the ref (who got most decisions spot on that day) and they moaned all season about not getting up thanks to their rubbish stadium. Obviously rules don't apply to Falkirk. Falkirk still don't have a stadium which meets SPL rules which is quite funny.

Saints have a fully fit squad to choose from, and there are no suspensions either. We must start with Mixu, as we play so much better when he starts. I'd quite like John O'Neill to start as well, but who do we drop; Brian McGinty who has pace but doesn't score, or Ricky Gillies who has been rubbish but scored last week. Personally I'd go for Gillies as he still hasn't scored from open play this year. O'Neill is our top scorer and scored last week, surely he has to start.

Saints need to win today to try and keep the league interesting. Sadly I think Falkirk will get rveenge and win 2-0.
