It's been said before many times, but here it is again. In 2007 we scored seven goals at home, won two games and notched up eight points. A horrendous record. Only Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Gretna were beaten, while third division East Fife knocked us out of the cup. Goodness knows what the problem is, but it needs to stop - now.
One of the few teams who left without three points were tomorrow's opponents Hibs, so hopefully the psychological aspect of that will help us on to start off the year with all three points. It would certainly provide a boost considering Gretna have been edging a bit closer in recent weeks.
Tomorrow could see the debut of exciting new signing Andy Dorman, who has now received his international clearance. Saints boss Gus MacPherson said yesterday that the midfielder would not feature, but his comments today suggest he has changed his mind - and he could even start. Perhaps just as excitingly is the news Craig Dargo has enough bits working again to return to the squad and could also start, which again would boost the fans. It would be a bit much to expect him to score, but hopefully he can build on his fitness and avoid injury. Will Haining is also back in training, but it's probably a week too soon for him.
Aside from the return of Dargo and the possible debut of Dorman, the rest of the starting lineup is likely to be the same as last week. Hugh Murray is still suspended, Andy Millen, Stephen O'Donnell and Richard Brittain are all injured and Eddie Malone has made his move to Dundee permanent. if Dargo starts, Stewart Kean is most likely to drop out, while Stephen McGinn is the obvious man to make way for Dorman.
Hibs recent run is almost as bad as ours - they've won just once since we last played (and beat) them at Easter Road in October. They've also lost manager John Collins and don't appear to be any closer to replacing him, while talented young striker Steven Fletcher is out with injury. All in all, it's not fun being a Hibs fan at the moment - although the plight of rivals Hearts will surely have helped lift some of the blues.
Saints have an awful habit of helping out teams in poor runs of form, so I think Hibs will sneak all three points tomorrow with a 1-0 win.
