Saints v Partick Thistle Preview

Last updated : 25 July 2006 By Stuart Gillespie
Due to the installation of undersoil heating and the relaying of the pitch, it hasn't been possible for there to be any other home friendlies this summer. There have been a few Saints fans annoyed by this, with some also moaning about a lack of a glamour friendly against an English side. Sadly, there's nothing that could have been done.

It is unlikely that Saints will start with the team that beat Morton on Saturday, seeing as that one had to play 120 minutes. This could mean starting places for the likes of Brian McGinty, Alex Burke and Andy Millen. Billy Mehmet and Ryan McCay missed that game with injury, but it is hoped they'll be fit enough to play some part tonight. Mehmet hasn't featured at all in pre-season and it looks as if his injury problems may have returned. Sadly, it looks unlikely that any trialists will play for Saints.

Partick are back in the first division after a year away, and many people are beginning to wonder if they'll ever last more than a year or two in the same division sometime in the near future. They managed back to back promotions in the first two seasons of the Millenium, then followed a year in the SPL with back to back relegations. Can they actually manage to stay in the first division for another season, or will they be celebrating another promotion (or being angry about another relegation) come the summer? Only time will tell.

Tonight's game kicks off at 7.30pm and, for some strange reason, it is all ticket.
