Saints v Saints Preview

Last updated : 20 August 2004 By Stuart Gillespie
The real Saints almost have a fully fit squad to choose from. Defender Mark Dempsie, who has yet to play this season, picked up a knock in a midweek game with Dunfermline and will miss out, whilst striker Allan Russell could be missing once again. Apart from everyone is availible. After last week's performance against Ross County, John O'Neill will probably start, as could John Baird and Ryan McCay.

Two players will be going out tomorrow with a point to prove. Mark Reilly and big Mixu were both booted from the Fake Saints in the summer, and decided that real was best and signed for St. Mirren. Why St. Johnstone wanted rid of these two is a mystery. Mixu has been superb, scoring two goals and helping create others, whilst Mark Reilly has done well in midfield.

By comparison, St. Johnstone's new signings have been extremely poor. They are currently bottom of the league with precisely no points, which should mean they win tomorrow. New signings like Michael Moore, Stephen McConalogue and Collin Marshall just haven't done their job, hence they are bottom and out of the league cup.

Other new arrivals included Jordan Tait, Sean Webb and David Hannah. Despite these defensive signings, and the arrival of keeper Allan McGregor on loan from Rangers, they have continued to leak goals. Goodness knows why or how. With a new, highly rated manager, in the shape of John Connolly, you really have to wonder why they are doing so poorly. Bit like the reason for us doing poorly last season I suppose.

It should be a good game, as the two teams were pretty evenly matches last season. Here's hoping that the real Saints once more come out on top.
