It was the second time in the last few weeks the young Buddies have faced the Pars, but this time it was in a cup game as they looked to make the final for the first time since 2005. John McGinn - who this time last week was lifting the League Cup - was brought in to help his old team mates, while Jordan Holt and Sean Kelly also provided first team experience thanks to loan spells at SFL clubs earlier in the season.
The young Buddies couldn't have got off to a worse start as Kerr Young headed home a corner inside the first two minutes. The lead lasted until midway through the first half, Kieran Doran scoring a fine equaliser.
It looked as if extra-time would be needed but with just a minute to go Blair Henderson put the Pars back in front. Incredibly, there was still time for a second Saints equaliser as Declan Hughes lashed home a loose ball to force the extra half hour. Sadly, with penalties looming, Andy Ritchie scored a couple of minutes from time and this time there was no way back for the Buddies.
Still, a terrific run from the young Saints to make it this far in the competition and proof - if ever it were needed - that the club currently has some talented teenagers on its books.
