The game in question was back in February, when Billy Mehmet scored to send Motherwell out of the Scottish Cup. Mr Thomson's only Saints game to date so far this season saw us suffer a late 1-0 defeat to Aberdeen at Pittodrie, with Lee Mair being sent off. Falkirk's only game with this official so far this season also saw them lose, this time to Dundee United at Tannadice. Last season they drew with Inverness Caley Thistle and beat Raith Rovers - who had a man sent off - in the League Cup.
Things are better in 2007/08 as wins over Gretna and Caley Thistle are joined by a draw with Motherwell and a narrow defeat to Dundee United. A win the previous season over Dunfermline was a false dawn with Mr Thomson as the Bairns lost their other three games to Motherwell, Kilmarnock and Hibs, twice having players sent off and even managing to concede two penalties in one game.
The only games with Falkirk for this official in 2005/06 were in the Scottish Cup and were a draw with Ross County and the replay the Bairns won. The previous season - in which Falkirk won the league - saw a comfortable cup win over Ayr, as well as wins over Ross County and Raith and a draw with Queen of the South.
2003/04 was the first time Mr Thomson came across Falkirk and he amusingly sent off then manager John Hughes in an away defeat to Queens. He sent off a Caley Thistle player when Falkirk won 2-1, with the only other game being a draw with Clyde.
There isn't really a great deal of note I can spot. An average of one red card every three games or so this season suggests Mr Thomson may be a bit strict, but hopefully his supposed support for Saints will see us through this weekend.
