Mr Muir - not to be confused with the former Saint of the same name - was the official for Love Street's last ever game when we faced Motherwell at the start of the year. The match finished goalless, but the referee incurred the wrath of 'Well boss for apparently "bottling" a couple of decisions after he didn't award a penalty that could have consigned us to a defeat on our big day. Personally I felt the calls were debatable, but I'd have been angry if we'd had them turned down. It's possible Mr Muir's inexperience - he's not even into double figures in terms of SPL games officiated - played a part that day, rather than any intention to defraud Muttley.
That is the only Saints game he has done to date and he's only done two Hibs games, both of which were last season and both of which were away from home. They were a 1-1 draw at Falkirk and a 2-0 defeat to Inverness Caley Thistle, meaning neither of Saturday's teams has yet to score in a match involving this official!
Not only will Saturday's game be Mr Muir's first at Easter Road, it'll also be his first in Edinburgh. He's already taken charge of two games this season that produced nothing of note, while last term he dished out seven yellow cards in 30 matches - an average of one every four or five games.
