The game in question came on May 12, 2007 when we went to Fir Park to play Motherwell. We were 1-0 down at half time before Mr Tumilty correctly gave the Steelmen a penalty to go 2-0 up and almost consign us to the drop. Of course, John Sutton and Billy Mehmet came on and the rest is history.
This will be his first St. Mirren game this season and he only did two last season. One of those was our final win at Love Street when we beat Hamilton 1-0, while the other was a 2-2 draw with Falkirk at St. Mirren Park when he correctly gave the Bairns a late penalty. His only other game with us, aside from the Miracle in Motherwell, was a 1-1 home draw against Inverness Caley Thistle in 2006.
Mr Tumilty has already taken charge of a St. Johnstone game this season - a 2-2 home draw with Hearts when Martin Hardie scored a late free-kick. Last season he only did a goalless draw with Queen of the South, while 2007/08 saw him take charge of three games - wins over Partick Thistle and Morton and a defeat to Hamilton. The year before saw a League Cup win over Elgin and a Scottish Cup win - after a replay - over Ayr United. His only other Fake Saints game was in 2006 when he took charge of a 3-2 win over Stranraer.
Nothing too eventful then, although he did send off Aberdeen's Jerel Ifil the other week. A repeat result of the game from two and a half years ago would be more than welcome - although I'd settle for the match being abandoned, which is what happened when Mr Tumilty recently took charge of Dundee United against Rangers.
