Aberdeen 2-1 Saints

I said in the preview on Friday there was a fair chance this would happen, and so it proved. Regardless of our form, we're great at helping teams who are struggling. Aberdeen were awful before we played them and now they have their first win in two months.

There was one change to the side that had done so well during the week, but it wasn't the one everyone expected. Lee Mair wasn't suspended after all so started, but Michael Higdon replaced Billy Mehmet as we once again started with six subs.

It almost worked too, Higdon thinking he'd scored with a header before Charlie Mulgrew was on hand to clear it off the line at the last minute. Just before the break, Aberdeen took the lead when Zander Diamond scored from a corner after the defence stood watching when the initial shot was saved by Paul Gallacher.

The Dons looked to wrap things up when a shot from Sone Aluko just trundled over the line, but with 10 minutes left Steven Robb scored a screamer from the edge of the box. We went looking for an equaliser with Mehmet, Higdon and Rory Loy all going close, but Aberdeen came up with a cunning plan to ensure we couldn't score by getting Steven MacLean sent off. Sneaky!

Despite the defeat, it seems this was a reasonable performance and maybe tiredness from the last few days caught up with us. With Hamilton winning it now looks like a three way fight for the drop between ourselves, Kilmarnock and Falkirk. All three of us lost today, meaning we still have a decent looking five point lead. We just need to extend that next week at home to Hearts.
