I wasn't there so this is based on radio reports and what I've read elsewhere.
Saints made one change to last weeks starting lineup, Kirk BRoadfoot replacing the injured Kevin McGowne, a change most of us had been wanting for weeks.
Caley Thistle went close with a few free kicks but Saints took the lead when Shuggy Murray's free kick was headed home by Simon Lappin after just 17 minutes.
Judging by the reports we were well on top for the remainder of the game, with Brian McGinty going close a few times, and we even had a few penalty claims turned down. David Bingham went close a few times in the last ten minutes but it looked like we were finally going to beat Caley. We hadn't beaten them at all since November 2001, and that was also our only win at the Caledonian Stadium.
Sadly it remained that way when Bingham scrambled home an equaliser in the last few minutes. The scramble came as a result of a corner, so once again we haven't cleared up properly. None the less, it's the first time we've not been beaten by Caley since December 2001!
Had you offered me a draw this morning I'd have grabbed it, it's just a shame that the equaliser came so late. I wouldn't have been nearly as bothered had it been ten minutes earlier. The good news is Ayr lost so we've got a slightly bigger gap to the bottom.
