Saints made a few changes, wit Captain Chaos coming in for the injured Mark Dempsie, and Simon Lappin coming back in for for injured Robert Dunn. Saints had a terrible strike force of Brian McGinty and John O'Neill, although Brian McGinty, Allan Russell and, amazingly, Eddie Annand were all on the bench.
Saints conceded a penalty early on, when Kirk Broadfoot fouled Ian Harty in the box. It was debatable, but from the TV pictures sit looked like Kirk had taken the ball, then Harty. Craig Hinchcliffe had no chance with the penalty.
Saints best chance of the first half was when Mark Crilly only had the keeper to beat, and fired wide. Just before half time, Saints took off O'Neill and replaced him with Russell. Amazingly, this was a superb substitution.
Someone had clearly given Russell a good kicking after his disgraceful performance against Raith Rovers, a she set one up then scored one. The first one was goal of the season stuff, his cross being met at the edge of the box by Simon Lappin, who fired a stunning volley into the net.
Less than ten minutes later, Saints had the lead, when Russell dinked the ball over the Clyde keeper. We were going to win, away from home, against the side at the top of the table? Don't be stupid!
Despite Russell and Broadfoot squandering chances, Clyde equalised with less than ten minutes to go, when terrible defending let Jack Ross easily head past Hinchcliffe. After the missed chances, the Saints fans their must have known we wouldn't win.
So, after losing 2-0 away to Brechin, Ayr and Raith (all below us), and losing 1-0 to Ross County, Saints have conceded late goals to stop them beating the top two sides Inverness Caley and Clyde. Why can't we play like that every week?
Caley Thistle next week at Love Street. it will be a tough game, but if we can take our chances we might, just might, scare them.
