Considering the Blue Brazil had already beaten Dundee United and Hearts in the last few weeks, we probably shouldn't be too surprised about this result. It will hopefully act as a reality check for those folk getting a bit carried away after Saturday's defeat - although the same people are not getting arried away in defeat. It would seem we need a centre half, but everyone apart from Danny Lennon knew that anyway.
For his return to his former club, Lennon went with a side similar to the one that destroyed Morton on Saturday with Graeme Smith in for Craig Samson and Marc McAusland starting instead of Darren McGregor.
The home side went in front after 18 minutes from a Jon Roberton free-kick, but a Paul McGowan screamer saw the sides go in level at half-time.
Cowdenbeath stepped up a gear after that and they retook the lead after an hour when player/manager Colin Cameron's cross was converted by Greg Stewart. The same man got the third with five minutes left to complete a memorable night.
For Saints, it was meaningless. Next Monday's trip to Fife isn't and we must step things up if we're to hit the ground running.
