Going by Twitter updates of the game, it seems like we dominated proceedings in the first half before Dumbarton came back into things after the break. However, they were unable to break us down and we made up for last year's 2-2 draw.
There were plenty of changes to the side that started against Ayr on Saturday, with Steven Thompson, Graham Carey, David Barron and Gary Teale among those brought into the side. It was the latter who opened the scoring after just three minutes, latching onto a through ball from Barron to lob the Dumbarton keeper.
Saints continued to push with Thompson and Paul McGowan both going close - the former having an effort ruled out for offside - while Teale looked impressive. The second arrived before the break, Steven Thomson (the one without a P) scoring from the edge of the box. More chances arrived before the break, with Carey and Thompson going close, but there was to be no more scoring.
The second half wasn't as nearly exciting - although sub Nigel Hasselbaink went close - and Dumbarton even had a few chances to get back into things. However, no one could find the net and it remained 2-0.
Dutch trialist Jeroen Tesselaar - who has apparently been offered a contract - was given a late runout, but there was no sign of striker Craig Sutherland. No doubt their futures will become a bit clearer in the next few days.
