I said in the preview we had to start taking points where we maybe didn't expect them and the players more than rose to that challenge this evening. Our record againast Dundee United has been woeful since we were promoted so to take all three points is a fantastic result. Of course, there was the usual late scare but for once we held on.
After the defeat to Rangers on Sunday, Danny Lennon made one change with Michael Higdon replacing Aaron Mooy. Wardlaw missed an early sitter and Sean Lynch had to replace the injured Murray but just before the break Higdon pounced on a defensive error to fire Saints in front. There was still time for Lynch to miss an easy chance and it looked like being another sob story.
However, midway through the second half Saints produced a lethal counter attack and Higdon added his second after a pass from Paul McGowan.
Of course, we can't have things that easy and with five minutes left Prince Bauben fired in a free-kick to increase the nerves. However, Saints held on for their third win of the season, their first on the road since October 2008 and three vital points that move us up to ninth on goals scored.
Bring on the Celtic!
