It may have been the Thom(p)son twins that scored the goal, but the star of the show seems to have been Jereon Tesselaar. The Dutch fullback set up both goals and put in a terrific display, so perhaps we should have signed one of his mates sooner!
As it was Ilias Haddad was only on the bench and there was just one change to the side that lost to Motherwell last week, Thomson surprisingly replacing Graham Carey rather than Kenny McLean.
Saints started well, McGowan going close before Tesselaar crossed for Thompson, who missed his shot and Thomson missed the rebound. However, Hibs were also having chances and went in front after 25 minutes, Garry O'Connor bustling his way through the defence and taking advantage of a lucky break to score.
In these situations Saints often collapse and Ivan Sproule almost immediately added a second. However, in the five minutes before the break Tesselaar and the Thom(p)son twins started to have some fun.
First, Tesselaar robbed Callum Booth and made his way into the box. He could have shot but instead decided to pass to the striker Thompson who cooly slotted home. Then, in stoppage time, Tesselaar won the ball from Victor Palsson and played in midfielder Thomson, who scored from 10 yards. Great stuff!
The expected onslaught from Hibs didn't arrive in the second half - although Martin Scott went close - and Saints were able to see the game out to record their first win at Easter Road in nearly four years.
Superb result and oviously a great performance from everyone. Bring on the Morton!
