With the hosts going two goals up inside ten minutes, you'd have been forgiven for thinking we'd be hammered. We'd gone with one striker (Billy Mehmet) and, as often happens when we do that, the game plan went out the window when we conceded an early goal.
Kris Boyd put Rangers in front after five minutes and Steve Davis doubled the lead five minutes later. They had a number of other chances, while Saints lost Steven Robb to injury just before the break. He was replaced by Stephen McGinn, but sadly not even he could spark another miracle against the Gers.
With half an hour to go manager Gus MacPherson withdrew Mehmet and Andy Dorman and introduced Dennis Wyness and Craig Dargo. Wyness missed a good chance before Miranda scored a fine goal with ten minutes left. He's the first player, other than Mehmet to score more than one goal for us this season and it also ended a goal drought lasting more than five games.
Saints pushed for an equaliser and came desperately close when a Dargo freekick brought out a superb save from keeper Allan McGregor. Sadly, that was as close as we were to get, with Rangers just holding on for the win.
An encouraging finish to the game, but the first ten minutes are a real concern and show that one up front can be a major problem. Fingers crossed we go with two strikers against Celtic next week.
