Saints made two chances to the team that faced Airdrie United in midweek. Andy Millen replaced Mark Reilly as expected, but Charlie Adam was relegated to the bench and was replaced by Alan Reid. There was also a sub keeper on the bench, with Danny McColgan now fit again.
Saints took the lead after just nine minutes. Simon Lappin crossed, and Stewart Kean shouldered/headered/whatever the ball goalwards. County keeper Stuart Garden touched it onto the post, but it still went in.
Judging by the highlights, Saints had a few more chances whilst County had more but were unable to make them count. Good!
Saints second came on the hour mark. John Sutton tried to shoot but his effort was smothered by Garden. However, David "Goal Machine" van Zanten is now making a habit of scoring Sutton's rebounds and forced it home for his second of the week.
Saints were well in control by now and twelve minutes later scored again. Sutton was fouled in the box and the Bell's Young Player of the Month took the kick himself. Garden got a touch but it still went in and Saints were cruising.
The romp was complete a few minutes later, Lappin again the provider. This time it was Hugh Murray on the end of his cross, and whilst Garden appeared to catch the header, he lost control of it and it went between his legs and into the net, much to the delight of the Saints support behind the goal.
Almost exactly three years ago, I watched "The Goal Rush" on ITV in horror as Ross County scored goal after goal in a 4-0 win a Dingwall. We've been beaten far too often there in the past few years, so to finally get some revenge is fantastic.
Someone has been due a doing from Saints for a wee while, but I thought it would be at Love Street, not away to the team in the second! That was Ross County's first home defeat of the season and leaves us seven points clear!
Championship credentials? No idea, but I'm fairly confident when I say we won't get relegated this season!
