Gus MacPherson made two changes to the Saints squad. As expected, Allan Russell sarted the game, replacing the injured John O'Neill. The spare place on the bench was taken by Robert Dunn.
The overall game was a pretty poor affair, and very little happened. Saints hardly had a shot on goal the whole afternoon. Simon Lappin had two decent chances, one almost went out for a throw in and the other was blazed high and wide. The only time Mark Brown in the Caley Thistle goal was forced to make a save was when Ricky Gillies had a tame shot saved.
To be fair to Saints, Caley Thistle weren't much better. They kept getting caught off side, or were caught out when Saints calamity defence managed to get the ball clear. Surprisingly, Kevin McGowne had a good game. He suffered a head knock in the first half, and reappeared wearing a headband in a Richard Gough or Terry Butcher style. Clearly someone told him he was Richard Gough or Terry Butcher, as he then went on to put in a decent performance. Could the Captain Chaos name be removed? Doubt it!
The only other decent Saints performer was Craig Hinchcliffe. In the last 20 minutes or so he pulled off some great saves from the likes of Paul Ritchie, Barry Wilson and Ross Tokely. He did have a totally un-Hinchy-esque moment at one point when he fumbled it, but managed to clear up. Definitely the man of the match.
The closest Caley Thistle came to scoring was in the first half, when the ball appeared to have crossed the line in a goal line scramble. It didn't.
There were poor good performers as both sides were poor. It was a bad result for both sides. Caley are now six points behind Clyde, whilst we're just six points above relegation. Brechin are eight points behind and could well be on their way down.
On the plus side, we're undefeated in our last four games, our last two league games against Inverness, and have drawn with the three teams at the top of the league. Sadly, we also drew with Brechin and have failed to beat them all season.
It's going to be a long 6 weeks.
