The biggest crowd at Love Street since 1991 and Saints couldn't impress. Almost from the first minute it was obvious that they wouldn't be anywhere near as impressive as they were against Falkirk last week and so it proved to be. There wasn't as much fight, the tactic was to punt the ball forward and there were very few, if any shots. Quite frankly, if this is the best we've got to offer in a must win game then we don't deserve to stay up.
The first half was fairly even, with Richard Brittain providing his usual poor quality of free kicks. Both sides had half chances, but nothing really major.
The second half was a different story, with Dunfermline taking the game by the scruff of the neck and going for it. Tam McManus had a goal incorrectly ruled out for offside before Brittain went close with a shot.
However, Dunfermline made the breakthrough when a Scott Muirhead shot was deflected off Kirk Broadfoot and fell straight into McManus' path, who had a simple finish from the edge of the six yard box.
Dunfermline had other chances, with Chris Smith playing well, before the inevitable Saints cavalry charge which looked good but yielded nothing - not a single shot on target to force Dunfermline goalkeeper Dorus de Vries into action.
Dunfermline deserved their point and now have every chance of securing their SPL safety. They are on a great run of form and play Motherwell next. As for Saints, it's off to Tannadice. Bottom place here we come!
