It was poor stuff in a poor game where Kilmarnock rarely had to do any work. Yet it all started so well.
In the opening 20 minutes, Saints were the better team. Ian Maxwell went close with a header and Stewart Kean had a volley that Alan Combe saved. Yes, a striker had a shot! I'm sure I'm as surprised as you are reading this.
Kilmarnock came back into it a bit after that, with Peter Leven forcing Chris Smith into a good save. They had a few other chances, but nothing close.
Sadly, 12 minutes into the second half everything went a bit pear shaped. A Paul di Giacomi corner found Nish, and he easily headed into the net. Another goal conceded from a set piece, which - quite frankly - is a disgrace.
By now it was obvious it was game over, as we can't score, but Saints toyed with our emotions when Maxwell had a header well saved by Combe. It shows how bad things are when our best two chances came from a defender at set pieces (which, I've noticed, we don't score from as nearly as much as we concede from them).
Killie put things beyond doubt with twelve minutes left, Paul Lawson losing the ball and Stevie Naismith slipping the ball through to di Giacomo, who squared it to Nish for a simple tap in.
Thank god Dunfermline lost. Next weekend at East End Park will be interesting!
