Saints 1-0 Queen of the South

Having read through my notesd, it would seem that we dominated this game. Queen of the South found themselves with the ball in the final third a lot of the time but couldn't do anything with it, apart from bundling the ball into the net at a corner only for the goal to be chalked off. Saints, on the other hand, did everything but score. Until the 92nd minute that is.

Hugh Murray replaced Iain Anderson in the starting lineup, whilst Mark Corcoran replaced Stewart Kean. One big shot was Mark Reilly replacing Andy Millen, whilst Kirk Broadfoot came on to the bench despite not having played for two months.

Saints had several chances. Corcoran forced Colin Scott into a save early on before Broadfoot was called into service earlier than he would have expected. Captain Kevin McGowne had picked up a head knock (and possible concussion) and had to be replaced by someone who hasn't been on a football pitch since January 2nd!

Saints continued to dominate, with Corcoran again forcing Scott into a good save before Charlie Adam decided to enter the miss of the season award. Simon Lappin crossed, and the on loan Rangers man somehow headed wide when unmarked. Oops!

The only other first half action came ten minutes before the break, a goalmouth scramble from a Queen of the South corner seeing the ball find the net. However, Charlie Richmond ruled the goal off for some infringement that no one is quite sure of.

Second half then, and the one way traffic resumed. John Sutton somehow missed when Lappin knocked the ball on to him, before Adam twice caused Scott problems with free kicks that he struggled to hold. Kean then replaced the poor Lappin, whilst Billy Mehmet replaced the equally poor Sutton.

The final fifteen minutes saw several bookings dished out for silly things like dissent and the ball being kicked away, although Ian Maxwell did find time to head an Adam corner wide with the goal gaping.

With full time looming things were looking grim. Then, two minutes into injury time, Kean crossed for Adam, and whilst everyone's life flashed before their eyes he took an hour to control it and another hour to fire it past Scott (well, it seemed like that!).

Cue bedlam in the stands as folk celebrated like they haven't done since Paul McKnight was scoring in April 2000. Despite being in the press box, even I was running about mental, and the roof very nearly came off the place.

It was enough for the three points, and they were fully deserved as well. There was some more good news after full time when it was announced Ross County and St. Johnstone had drawn 2-2. Even funnier was the fact St. Johnstone's keeper had scored an equaliser with two minutes left.

On to Brechin on Tuesday (if it's on) and Clyde on Saturday. Clyde gubbed Brechin 5-1 today so it'll be interesting to see what happens.

If we win the next five games we're champions. And that's a fact.

Shhhhhh..
