Saints found themselves 2-0 down at the break, after goals from Simon Donnelly and Darren Brady. It had been a decent enough showing for the first twenty minutes, with a few chances being created and missed by Stewart Kean and Kirk Broadfoot. Then Andy Millen went off, to be replaced by a Spanish trialist.
Saints changed to a back four, with the trialist at left back, and suddenly looked very shaky. Partick scored two quickly and could have had a few more, whilst Saints threatened slightly more towards half time.
Saints boss Gus MacPherson was not a happy camper at half time and made six changes, and saw an improvement almost immediately when John Sutton slotted past Kenny Arthur. Billy Mehmet, Brian McGinty and Broadfoot all went close as they searched for the equaliser but it didn't come. A further blow arrived with the news that both Millen and McGinty will miss Saturday's game.
The Saints lineup was: Smith, van Zanten (Murray 45), Broadfoot, Millen (Trialist 23), Maxwell, Brittain (McGinty 45), Anderson (Corcoran 45, Brady (Molloy 45), Kean (Sutton 45), Burke (Mehmet 45), Reid.
On the plus side, the trialist looked half decent and could be worth another try. Shame he's only a left back and not a striker!
