Saints 2-0 Airdrie United

We probably didn't deserve to win this game, and certainly not by two goals. But it's Airdrie United, who I hate, so i don't care.

As a game, it was rubbish. Airdrie dominated most of it and should have gone in a few goals up at half time. The closest Saints came was with a Robert Dunn shot which cracked the bar. Due to a lack of a left back Saints went for a 3-5-2, with Kevin McGowne being worse than usual in defence, if that's possible.

The second half was more of the same, Saints trying to chsange things around by introducing Barry Lavety, Mark Crilly and David McKenna. The latter's introduction saw Shuggy Murray go wide right, and this is what won Saints the game.

From an Airdrie attack, Saints went bursting forward, including Basher who was charging upfield like a man possesed. he got the ball 26 yards out (cheers Radio Scotland) and smacked it with his left foot. Not only did it go past Marck McGoewn in the Airdrie goal, it went into that net thing! Finally, after months and months, Basher had scored, and it was an absolute peach. His last Saints goal was against Clydebank, so I suppose it was always going to happen seeing as thats who he was playing. The Airdrie fans had sang "You Fat Bastard" when he came on, something that was always going to come back to haunt them.

There was even time for a second, when Shuggy's free kick was scrambled home by David McKenna. Nice.

Unfortunately the fans who were making the fourth round draw were Caley and Saints fans. The Caley fan pulled out Saints at home, the Saints fan pairing us with Caley. Ah well.
