Let's not get carried away. We were up against a third division side. However, we faced one last season and were beaten and we faced Dumbarton in the Scottish Cup in January and only one 3-0. So, on that basis, things are looking up.
Debut boy Steven Robb opened the scoring inside 18 minutes and Mehmet and Andy Dorman ensured Saints were cruising at half time. Mehmet added another two fairly quickly to ensure he walked off with the match ball, while Craig Dargo and Gary Mason also joined in the fun later on.
For once, it seems we finally attacked a team rather than sit back and produce a laboured performance against a side from a lower league. Hopefully the confidence boost will help us on to some good league results, starting with Aberdeen on Saturday.
For the record, this was our biggest win since we beat East Stirlingshire in the League Challenge Cup in August 2002 by the same margin. It was the first hat trick for a Saints player since John Sutton scored three against Brechin City in March 2006 and Steven Robb's first goal since March 2007.
