The former clothes shop worker got to live his dream of full time football when Danny Lennon brought him with him from Cowdenbeath in 2010. Darren started off his career with the Blue Brazil before dropping down into junior football with Arniston Rangers. However, he fought back ad returned to Cowdenbeath in 2008. He was a key part of their successive promotion campaigns and was comfortable in defence or midfield. The step up to the SPL could have been a daunting one, but he adapted with ease. A solid defender, strong in the header and capable of scoring from set-pieces. However, he also likes to go on bombing runs forward that are reminiscent of Kirk Broadfoot (without the step overs) and it was from one saunter up the park he scored a screamer at Ibrox. Still a bit raw and error prone, which is to be expected from someone who has only just stepped up to both the SPL and full-time football. Unfortunately, he tore his cruciate ligaments in just the third game of the 2011/12 season and only returned at the end of March. The comeback seemed complete on the opening day of the new season when he scored a last minute equaliser against Inverness Caley Thistle, but tragically he suffered ligament damage in his other knee in the third game and had to go through the whole process again, only returning to fitness for the 2013 pre-season schedule.
