Saints Career: Almost every important Saints goal of the last few years was scored by Billy Mehmet, who joined from Dunferline in the summer of 2005. It took him nearly a year to score his first goal, but when he did it won us the first division! He barely scored the following season as well, but scored the equaliser in a remarkable game at Motherwell when we came from 2-0 down to win 3-2 and secure SPL survival. The following season saw him play more and the goals increased, but he was still hardly prolific. He bagged a hat-trick against Dumbarton in 2008 and sent us to Hampden for the Scottish Cup semi-finals in 2009, as well as scoring the opener in a vital win over Falkirk that helped keep us up. The following season he helped fire us to the League Cup Final, scoring five against East Stirling and the crucial strike against Hearts that put us in the final. He also scored a hat-trick against Alloa, but he managed just three league goals all season. A hard worker who could bang them in for fun against lower league sides, he just wasn't prolific enough for my liking. However, he had a knack of scoring important goals, which means he'll be fondly remembered.
Post Saints Career: Billy left in the summer of 2010 when his contract expired and he moved to Turkey, signing for Gençlerbirliği. However, after scoring just two goals there, he left in January 2011 as they ran out of money and dropped down a division to sign for Samsunspor. However, he was only there until the end of the season. A move to Hearts was tlaked about but he eventually signed for Aussie side Perth Glory - joining former Saints Ian Ferguson and Steven McGarry. His fine form with them saw him handed a new two year contract in the early part of 2012. They made the final that year, losing, before Billy was off globetrotting again when he signed for Bangkok Glass in Thailand.
